The origin story

Get Skin Help is a product of a start-up company called Skinopathy, where I joined as an intern for the Fall semester. As a Canadian start-up company, I  appreciate the invaluable experience I gained from the company and the whole team. I, specifically, worked on revamping the website to improve how users navigate, as well as, to redesign the interface of the site.

The purpose

The purpose of the redesign is to solve for a couple of the business issues the company has been experiencing on the website:

1. Users (in this case, patients) aren't completing the medical form to book an appointment. Data analytics show that users are dropping off half-way through the form and we need to know why.

2. The website needs to improve its credibility through design and content to gain trust of the target audience.

The research

Card Sorting

During the empathy phase of the project, my team and I have conducted user testings (i.e. Card Sorting) to understand how users understand our planned Information Architecture. It is important to test out how we plan to organize the information on the site so that we know that our users will understand and easily navigate our site.

The design process

Sitemap & Information Architecture

We kicked off the design process by brainstorming the appropriate user flow based upon our findings from the user research phase. The user research helped the team prioritize what our users want to do from the platform and how they would navigate the information on the site.

After a few weeks of drafting the architecture, using the card sorting method, we finally arrived to the final architecture of the platform, as you are able to see below.

User Interface Style Guide

One the branding has been set, we moved on to creating the style guide to have a set guideline on what the platform should look like. The interface of the site before was dark theme and the team has decided to choose lighter theme due to the reason that Skinopathy is in the medical industry and darker theme may have a negative connotation attached to dark, death, and other stuff.

Wireframes

When the branding guidelines above had been approved, we went on to design the wireframes. Blood, tears and sweat of the whole team have been offered to complete this project.

It's live!

This has been the most exciting project I have been a part of early in my UX career. As a starter, I couldn't believe I have led a team of designers to make this site live. If you are interested to view the live site, please feel free to explore it here: https://getskinhelp.com/
